1st Grade Music Concert

Madelyn had her first ever elementary school music concert last night. She was super excited about being able to sing her heart out.
I apologize in advance for the picture quality. Upon arriving to the concert we discovered that the camera battery was dead, therefore I had to use my i-phone. Thank goodness we got it all on video though.

Madelyn chose to wear her new plaid dress with her boots. Gotta love a girl with style. :)

The 1st grade class sang 10 songs and Madelyn even got to play the xyolophone (sp?). Mrs. Hurd would be so proud.

Madelyn was disappointed when it was over because she wasn't ready to be done singing. It was a fun concert to watch and we were super proud of our girl singing her heart out. The next music concert will be when Madelyn is in 3rd grade and she will be in a brand new school by then!!

71 Years Young

Happy 71st Birthday to the best Father-in-Law! Although I didn't get to pick my in-laws, I couldn't have asked for a better family to marry in to. Although most men pick a woman that are like their mothers, Ryan picked someone that is just like his dad. :)

We love you Papa!!

Budget Cuts

I often times feel the stress of budget cuts in my current position because that is the nature of the beast in the social services field. We are expected to give, give, give, but the state keeps taking our money away. It is very frustrating when we are serving the most vulnerable citizens in Kansas but we have no money to do so.
Any who, I recently met with our CFO and requested to purchase new chairs for me and several of my staff because the chairs we currently have are going on 10 years old and have no padding left. I figured since we are in these chairs up to eight hours a day it would be nice to have one that has padding. After pricing chairs at three stores and coming back with this information I was told to look through our office supplies books to find a comparable chair for cheaper.

I sent this picture to the CFO and let her know that I could not find a chair in the book that was comfortable. Thankfully, she has a decent sense of humor.
I'm happy to report that the CFO approved my request for new chairs and I don't have to order them from an office supply book.

Date Night

It is a very rare occasion that Ryan and I go out without Madelyn or without other couples. As a matter of fact most of the time we prefer being with other couples vs. just us. However, I thought it would be a nice change of pace and planned a date night for just me and Ryan.

We started our date with a stop at Kohls so Ryan could get some much needed new clothes. After a brief shopping spree we went Legends at the Airport Hilton for the all you can eat seafood buffet. And let me tell you it did not disappoint. Ryan got his fill of peel and eat shrimp and I got my fill of crab legs.

After dinner we checked into our hotel room at The Marriot in Old Town.

Then walked across the street to one of Old Town's local hangouts, The Pump House, (obviously named because it used to be a filling station).

After we partied like rockstars, or drank several beers and made it until 11:00pm, we called it a night.

Honestly, I was a little concerned that we wouldn't have much to talk about because it is never just me and Ryan. However, I was pleasantly surprised when there was not a lull in conversation and we had a blast just hanging out and talking about what a great life we have. Ryan and I decided that we really should make an effort to have overnight date nights annually.

Thanks to my mom and dad for coming down to stay the night with Madelyn so we could have our date night! It wouldn't have been possible without them.

State Wrestling

Madelyn and I made our annual trek to Salina, KS this Saturday to watch the 4A state wrestling. This year we had an added bonus because Jenny, Garrett and Matt had met us there for a visit. It was so great to see them. Madelyn loves seeing her Aunt Bun-Bun and cousins, as do I. After we ate lunch with them, they headed home and we spent the rest of the day watching wrestling. Madelyn actually even took a nap on the nasty floor so she must have been tired. I enjoyed catching up on the gossip with friends and listening to the HS kids tell stories. One of the managers fixed Madelyn's hair, and I thought it turned out really cute.

The Orioles did a great job at state. They took seven this year and came home with a 2nd place and 4th place medals. Since the Orioles Heavy Weight was in the finals we stayed until the very end and made it home shortly after 9:00pm.
Ryan is glad another season is over, as are Madelyn and I. It will be nice to have Ryan around full-time again.
