Pumpkin Patch

We have taken Madelyn to Walter's Pumpkin Patch since she was just over a year old. This year we had actually decided we weren't going but our friends decided they would take Madelyn and a few other kids. Madelyn was picked up at 1:00pm and made it home around 5:00pm. While she was having a great time at the Pumpkin Patch Ryan, Brandon, Lisa and I went on a hunt to find adult Halloween Costumes for the costume party this coming weekend. After going to three costume stores and two second hand stores we still came home empty handed. We have several fun ideas but have yet to find anything. Regardless we had a fun time on our day out without the kiddos.

Not much to Blog

It has been almost two weeks since my last blog. I guess that means that not too much exciting has been going on at the Muhlig house. Pretty much, same crap, different day.

Madelyn has one more game left of fall soccer. Her game was cancelled this week because of the over 5 inches of rain we received. I guess they could have turned it into water polo.

Ryan went out bow hunting one time thus far. Not sure how often he will go this year. He seems to be much more entertained by the 50 quail chics he is raising. He just purchased a 10/22 for plinking (Ryan's words, not mine). My deer stand (or shed) is ready to go. I'm taking off work opening day in hopes to get one. Unlike Ryan I'm not looking to shoot a trophy deer. I just want to shoot one and be done. Probably won't shoot another deer in my life after I get one. Kind of like when I shot the three turkeys in one shot. I really don't have a desire to do it again. It was exciting and fun at the time but I don't really see what all the fuss is about.

One of our friends is taking Madelyn to Walter's Pumpkin Patch tomorrow. The first time in four years that we aren't going. We may take her to the smaller pumpkin patch next weekend before she heads to Nana and PawPaw Sill's for a few days.

Ryan is competing in the Biggest Loser at the high school again. Last year he and his partner won. He lost 35lbs. He looked like someone straight out of a concentration camp, I thought. I usually try to lose while he does. We cut out all pop, deep fat fried foods, cookies, cake and brownies. The contest ends December 12, but he wants us to go until the end of wrestling season, which is the last weekend in February. I haven't committed to that long at this point.

Out of the mouth of babes - The other night Madelyn was saying her prayers with Ryan before bed and it went something like this "Dear Jesus, I pray that my papa (muhlig) gets some teeth that don't fall out."

GNO and a New Do

Okay these two things are completely unrelated but I thought I would kill two birds with one stone in this post.

Saturday night was GNO with my 3 BFFs from High School. I have known the cute blonde(Kris) since Kindergarten and the darling brunettes(Kelli and Robin) since junior high. There were years from High School until our 10 year reunion that we didn't keep in contact that often, but soon after the reunion we all reconnected and now get together every 3-6 months for Girls' Night Out. We always have a great time whether it be shopping on Black Friday, going out on the town (whatever town that may be), or just hanging out.
This past weekend we went on a haunted house tour in Topeka and then crashed at Kelli's house. Kelli and her family recently moved into a gorgeous home north of Topeka. I called it her "homecoming party." Before the tour we went to a local pub, The Celtic Fox, for dinner and drinks. I was the lucky one to have some seventy year old, balding man offer to buy me a drink. Which I kindly declined. How is that I always attract the real honeys when we go out? We had a fun time and got to hear a lot about the ghosts of Topeka. The next time I get to hang out with these lovely ladies is when we get up at the crack of dawn on Black Friday for our annual shopping spree.

Subject Change....
On Saturday Madelyn got to spend the day with Gramma and Grampa Muhlig since I was in Topeka and Ryan went to the K-State game with a friend. While she was with her Gramma and Grampa she went to Aunt Shelly's salon in Herington and got her hair cut. Aunt Shelly did a spectacular job and I think Madelyn looks so cute with the new do.

A Visit from the Tooth Fairy

Yesterday morning I received a forwarded e-mail from Ryan. It was a note from Madelyn's teacher.

Hey Ryan,
This is a message from Madelyn; she is standing here helping me type this. She lost her tooth this morning!!!!! Right after our Superkids lesson she let me pull it! Wow!!! It was exciting for everyone, our first lost here in class! I think the Tooth Fairy needs notified immediately. She has a "sealed" envelope with it wrapped in a tissue.

Mrs. Olson gave Madelyn a certificate for losing her tooth.


Ryan and Madelyn had both tried to pull that tooth prior to school but had no luck. I guess Mrs. Olson has the special touch.




Madelyn was very excited about losing her first tooth, as were we. We put it in a baggie with a letter to the tooth fairy requesting to keep her very first tooth so I could put it in Madelyn's scrapbook. Then Madelyn stuck it under her pillow.



At 5:51am this morning Madelyn came bounding in to our bedroom so excited that the Tooth Fairy had left fairy dust and money (and that nice little tooth fairy left Madelyn's first tooth too). Thankfully I convinced Madelyn to crawl in bed with me and go back to sleep, but not until after I put the baggie with the money and tooth on the night stand (because she didn't want to put it back under her pillow just in case the tooth fairy came back).

Inflation is a killer these days, $5.00 for the first tooth?!?!?

Dancing Queen (or maybe not)

Friday evening the lil' girls of Augusta performed with the AHS dance team during half time at the AHS football game. Madelyn seemed to cling to one of the AHS dancers and didn't do a whole lot of dancing. She did manage to get in a few moves though. Afterwards when I was talking to her about the dancing she told me that she couldn't do very well because she was too thirsty. Ryan videotaped her debut and I attempted to take pictures. All the pictures of the actual dancing turned out poorly but I did take a few shots of her before the performance.

Weekend At A Glance

We have had another busy and fun weekend. Friday night we went to Soccer practice and then to the AHS football game to watch the Orioles get beat yet again. Post game was at our house as usual but I was a party pooper and went to bed at 10pm. Ryan finally came in around 2:30am after the last person went home. I felt much better than he did when we had to get up early for Madelyn's 8:00am soccer game. After the game, we went home, cleaned up and took Madelyn to a baby-sitter's house. Then Ryan and I and the Terrys' grabbed a quick bite to eat and went to the Beer Fest. Ryan and I volunteered at the Inflatables Booth for a few hours. It is a fundraiser for Starkey, Inc. When we volunteer we get free t-shirts, free admission to the Beer Fest and after our shift is up we can drink until we puke (okay, not really). We've been doing this for the past four years. Fun stuff. The Beer Fest was over at 4:00pm so we headed to Old Chicago for an appetizer. At that point Ryan and Brandon were feeling quite fine and convinced us to go on a .25 cent trolley ride. It was just the four of us on the twenty minute ride. Brandon and Ryan were very entertaining to me, Lisa and the trolley driver. We got home around 7:00pm. Madelyn had a great time with her sitter and even discovered she has her very first loose tooth. That is big news in our house. Ryan and Brandon wanted to finish the evening with a few more beverages but I was tired so I sent Ryan to the Terrys' house and Madelyn and I were in bed before 9:00pm. I believe Ryan got home around 12:30am. Today Madelyn and I went to Church while Ryan stayed home and licked his wounds. After Church Madelyn and I went to High School Musical on Ice with Lisa and Kenzie. I was actually impressed with the show. The skating was good and the lip syncing (sp?) was even better. :) Now we are home for the evening and I'm debating if I should clean house or bake something. I think baking is going to win this time around.

Freddie, the almost Frog

A few weeks ago Madelyn and I were in Wichita doing a little shopping when I decided to take her to the Superior School Supply store. For elementary teachers, this store has everything one could need. For just everyday folk it has a lot of stuff I don't need but fun stuff to look at. Madelyn and I were particularly interested in the butterfly growing, ant farm and grow a frog. Well of course we couldn't leave without something in hand and Madelyn, or maybe I was, really interested in growing a frog. So we purchased the grow a frog kit and as soon as we got home we mailed off the card to get our tadpole. As you can imagine, Ryan was less than thrilled because we spent $15 on a tadpole (but he comes with a really nice new home) when he could go to any creek (pronounced crick) and find dozens of them. BUT, this is a special tadpole. Our little tadpole arrived in the mailbox yesterday afternoon (even though on the box it said do not put in mailbox, deliver to the front door). We were thrilled to see that he was still alive when we opened up the box. Ryan said "that isn't tadpole, that is a catfish, it has whiskers." Well obviously Ryan has never seen a special tadpole. I assured him it was indeed a tadpole. And wouldn't luck have it, the little guy has little leg buds. We didn't have any nondistilled bottled water as recommended for the tadpole but I did microwave some refrigerated bottled water and he adjusted just fine. It was touch and go for a bit because he seemed to be floating on his back for a time. I must say he is the cutest tadpole I have ever seen. You can see his little heart beating because he is see through. When he is happy his head is down and tail is up and he is wiggling. I'm quite sure he knows our voices and starts doing that as soon as he hears us. :) He made it through is first night. Madelyn fed him before school and kissed his home before she left for school. We keep referring to Freddie as a he, but actually won't know for another eight months if he is a boy or girl. Ryan said, "it's going to live that long?" He has not faith. I'll keep you posted on our Frog farming. It hopefully will be more successfull than Ryan's quail farming.
