Tomorrow around lunch time Madelyn and I are heading to KC. We are meeting up with Robin, Kris, Kelli and their kiddos at Great Wolf Lodge. We have had this planned for a couple months and I have managed to keep it a secret from Madelyn this entire time. I will tell her about it when we are on our way.
On the down side, Madelyn started getting sick on Monday. It started with a runny nose and cough. When I picked her up after school yesterday she had a fever. Ryan stayed home with her today. She feels okay and doesn't have a fever as long as she is doped up with ibuprofen or tylenol. I had thought about cancelling our trip but Ryan and I talked about it and we decided she would be okay to go. Also, if we wanted to get a complete refund I had to notify GWL 72 hours prior to our arrival time. Madelyn started getting sick after that deadline. Since the room is $190 a night (thankfully I'm splitting it with another person) I wasn't real keen on paying for a room and not staying. I just hope by the time we are heading to KC tomorrow Madelyn will be feeling much better. Regardless I'm sure there will be a story to tell and pictures to post when we return.

Madelyn woke up without a fever and no meds. Hopefully it stays that way.

Roller Derby
Last weekend the Terrys' and us took the kids roller skating. This was the first time the kids had been in a roller rink and the first in over 20 years since any of the adults had been in a roller rink. Needless to say it was quite a comical sight to watch all of us on skates.
Madelyn spent the majority of her time on her rear or clinging to the wall. The only time I fell was when some rather large lady came crashing into me. I gave her the look of death and she apologized profusely. Ryan and I took turns holding up Madelyn, which explained why my shoulders and arms were so sore the next day. Lifting 52lbs over and over is tiring on the old muscles.
It was nice to try something different for a change but I can bet we won't be going back to a roller rink any time soon. It was way too much work for a night of fun.

Madelynisms
Ryan and I think Madelyn is hysterical, but of course we are her parents and our opinions are rather biased. But every now and then she says some funny stuff that I like to share. For example, this evening as we were all lounging around watching TV, she commented about some animal on TV. She loves animals. Ryan asked, "do you think you will be veterinarian when you grow up?" She said, "No, I love meat and I don't want to quit eating it." LOL!! Veternarian....Vegetarian.... pretty close.

Just an (un)Ordinary Saturday
It is not unusual to see a homemade tent somewhere in our house on the weekends. Usually Ryan helps with the tent making, then watches part of a movie with Madelyn before he heads to bed and she falls asleep in the tent. This was Madelyn's sleeping arrangement last night.
Wake up sleeping beauty.
After I went for a five mile run, we ate breakfast, then headed outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. We went for a scooter/bike ride, played t-ball, did some sidewalk drawings, and took turns pushing each other down the driveway in the wagon.
Such a fashion queen just like her father. She never cares what she looks like. I had to point out that it wasn't fashionable to tuck a sweatshirt into sweat pants. It took a bit of persuading before she untucked the sweatshirt.
The ball rolled into the street gutters so Madelyn had to shimmy down the man hole and get it.
Ryan left around 1:00pm to eat lunch with a kid (23 year old past student), and then the two of them went deer hunting in hopes to fill their doe tags.
Madelyn and I had lunch at Playa then when we came home I took a short nap and Madelyn watched a movie. Now Madelyn is watching HSM for the millionth time and pairing up clean socks while I blog. We are patiently waiting for Ryan to get home so we can go bowling or roller skating with the Terrys'.

GNO and NYE festivities
Tuesday evening I enjoyed the monthly GNO with friends from Augusta. We get together the last Tuesday of every month for dinner, beverages and gossip at the local mexican restaurant, Playa Azuls. We usually are quite entertaining for the waiters and I'm sure they look forward to our visit every month.
Nicole is on the left. We are good friends with Nicole and her husband Andy. Ryan and Andy go hunting together often. Nicole also works in the social service world so I knew her through work and because her husband and Ryan used to work together. Beth, in the pink, was one of Ryan's students many moons ago and is also related to Andy and Nicole. Lisa, the girl in the white, is one of my good friends. She and her husband, Brandon and their two kiddos moved to Augusta when her husband took over as the head wrestling coach at AHS a few years ago. Ryan and Brandon are good buds and go hunting and fishing together, often and plenty. Dianne, the lady in the dark blue shirt, and her family are very dear friends to us. They are like family to us and watch Madelyn from time to time. Dianne and her husband, Steve, have a son in college, and two daughters in high school. Ryan coached their son, Corbin, in football and wrestling. The girls, Taylor and Paige, take turns babysitting Madelyn. Dianne is also one of the AHS secretaries.
Lizzie is the one sticking out her tongue. She is a hoot. I met her when Ryan coached her sons in wrestling and football. She has four very nice looking grown sons. Kelly, is the other lady, She is one of the AHS secretaries and her daughter baby-sits Madelyn sometimes.
Dianne did not approve of the drink!!!
After we closed down Playa, Dianne's daughter, Taylor, was Lisa and my ride home. She took us "cruising" in the trailer parks and alleys of Augusta. We enjoyed cat calling anyone that was out and about at 10:00pm at night.

NYE
The three of us celebrated NYE at our house with Brandon and Lisa and their two kiddos. Ryan made supper for all us. We enjoyed grilled and fried quail, pheasant and turkey, potatoes or fries and bread. After dinner the adults played the game, Dirty Minds, and drank beverages, while the kids destroyed the house. Around 10:00pm we were all getting tired so we decided to walk over to our neighbors' party (we were invited). We made it back home before the New Year rang in and at midnight we shot off fireworks left over from the 4th of July. The Terrys' left shortly after and the three of were sound asleep by 1:00am.
My idea of a fun NYE has sure changed as I have aged. I really don't see what the fuss is all about anymore and staying up until midnight is a huge struggle. But, I'm sure I will continue to celebrate just because that is the thing to do and why break tradition, right?

Christmas III
Today we had our third and final Christmas for 2008. We traveled to Council Grove for the Muhlig family Christmas at Ryan's parent's house. We all enjoyed lunch, opening gifts, wrestling and robber's bingo. There rarely is a Muhlig gathering that someone is not wrestling before the day is over. After we ate until we were stuffed and laughed until our sides hurt then we went to my parents' house to drop off Madelyn. She will be staying with them until Wednesday. What will Ryan and I do with all the free time? Probably mope around and wish Madelyn were home. I'm sure glad I have to work the next three days so I can pass the time.

Christmas I and II
On Christmas Eve my side of the family celebrated Christmas at our house. This is a first time in history that we have not traveled to Council Grove for Christmas and I must say it was very nice not having to travel. We ordered pizza for dinner and snacked on all the goodies that mom and I had made. Then we went to the Christmas Eve service at my Church. It was a very nice candle light service and we were headed home within 45 minutes. On our way home we stopped by a house that has a Christmas light show to music. Madelyn and I have stopped by that house numerous times this holiday season and we never do get tired of it. Once we got back to our house we ate more snacks and started the unwrapping. Everyone made out very well. DeAnn and Terry and the girls headed home and my parents went to my aunt Rosemary's house around 9:00pm. Then Ryan and Madelyn set a trap to catch Santa and we set out a snack for Santa and his reindeer. Madelyn and Ryan watched a movie until they crashed and I hit the sack after the work was done.
Christmas morning Ryan was up early and Madelyn soon followed. Some how Santa had managed to sneak into our house without getting caught in the trap. He sure is clever. Madelyn was very excited to see that Santa had left her a bunch of presents and an electric razor scooter.She claims that she had been a very good girl this year. Madelyn passed the gifts out and then we took turns opening. Then we spent the morning enjoying our new toys. We will have to make a couple exchanges as the Leapster doesn't work with the games and my camera doesn't have clear pictures as we had hoped.
The three of us will be enjoying a steak dinner for lunch and then spending the day at home. Since we are already getting on one another's nerves it should make for a long and interesting day. I sure wish there were some stores open so I could do some shopping and get the heck out of here.
However, we are so thankful for this day, Jesus' birthday, and hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas enjoying time with family. Even if they do get on your nerves. Merry Christmas everyone!!
