Pumpkin Patch 2010

This past Friday Madelyn and her daddy had the day off from school so they decided to go to a local pumpkin patch, AppleJacks. Although Madelyn enjoyed the big slide, zip line and such, her mission was to get the biggest and best pumpkin there. Thirty dollars later she had completed her mission. She could have purchased three pumpkins at Wal-Mart for that price but instead she chose to buy one really big over priced pumpkin at the pumpkin patch.

Beerfest

Yesterday we participated in the annual Wichita beerfest. Unfortunately this was the first year since we started going that my work didn't have a fundraiser taking place. Therefore we had to pay to get in and didn't get a free t-shirt. That kind of sucked! But, all in all it was a good time, as always. It was packed as usual and women were the minority hands down. It was so nice to have short lines to the womens' bathroom and the mens' line was forever long.

This year we had a guaranteed DD (not drunk driver) as Lisa didn't drink this year because she is expecting. She was quite the trooper dealing with all the drunks.

At 4:00pm we had taste tested until we were silly and beerfest was over we headed to Old Town for dinner and more drinks. By 8:00pm most of us were ready to head home, but one of the youngsters of the group was insistent we stay. He is a whopping 22 year old, a senior in college student teaching in Augusta. He was all about the party until the "older" boys started buying him shots such as prairie fire (tabasco and vodka) and the nastiest shot ever (queso and tequila). By 8:30pm he was hurting and the bar trash can became his new best friend. The ride home was entertaining to say the least, as the older boys taunted the youngin' the entire way. I'm guessing that young man will not be taking shots for quite some time. Live and learn.

Mad Dog

Madelyn earned the name "Mad Dog" at her very first soccer practice this year. It had something to do with how aggressive she can be towards other kids, I believe. Her coach, and after school babysitter, Taylor, gave her that name and it has stuck. When she is on the soccer field she is Mad Dog, I've heard other parents calling her Mad Dog and even at school kids have begun calling her Mad Dog.

Madelyn moved up to arena soccer this year. It is nice to not have to stop the game every other minute for the ball going out of bounds. Madelyn seemed to really enjoy playing but it was a tough season for her team, as they have yet to win a game. This coming weekend will be her last soccer game for this year and her Gramma and Grampa Muhlig will be taking her as we have our annual Beerfest to attend. Yes, we are parents of the year. Don't judge. :)

These are the Days of Our Lives

It has been busy at the Muhlig household so I've had very little time to post and quite frankly didn't really have anything overly exciting to post. Well, I guess that is a matter of opinion if any of my blog posts are exciting but such is life.

Ryan has settled in very well with his new position as Assistant Principal. He seems to enjoy his new job and is extremely busy from the time he arrives to school to the time he leaves. He also has many evening activities that he has to attend, so we are all adjusting to his new schedule. Bow season started not long ago and he has very little opportunity to hunt with his work schedule. Thankfully his wife is a cool gal and doesn't complain too much when he wants to go hunting on the weekends. He is anxiously awaiting the arrival of quail and pheasant season when he makes his annual trek to western, Ks on opening weekend.

Madelyn loves second grade. She tells us that Mrs. White is her favorite teacher, but she tells us every year that her current teacher is her favorite. We are very pleased with how well she is doing in school this year. She has received 100% on all her weekly spelling test thus far and reports that spelling is "easy." We will see if she continues to feel that way as the year progresses. Madelyn has also really taken off with reading, she loves a/r and is thrilled about reading chapter books. She and I make a trip to the library about twice a month so she can check out new books (and don't let her tell you differently Gramma Muhlig). Ryan and I are both thrilled that Madelyn has a love for reading, as neither of us did and therefore we struggled with reading when we were younger. Madelyn participates in Girl Scouts twice a month and has soccer practice and games twice a week. However, soccer season is coming to an end and she will soon be starting basketball.

My day consists of the same crap different day. I'm still plugging away at my job working with new admissions and supervising eleven Case Managers. I still complain that I'm doing the director's job without the title and don't get paid nearly enough but I still love what I do so I guess that counts for something. I continue to run 3-5 times a week just not covering near the mileage as when I'm in training mode. A friend talked me into attending a spinning class at the YMCA a couple times a month and that has been a fun but tough class. It is a nice change of pace. Evenings are spent running Madelyn to and from her activities and attending AHS events. And interestingly, the girl that hated reading as a child, now reads a couple books a month, and they aren't just picture books!

Life is Good.
